Wasabi

The finest Wasabi in the Southern Hemisphere

Wasabi is incredibly difficult to grow, but Shima Wasabi have been perfecting their practices for over a decade and now offer wasabi to rival the best you’d find in Japan.

The Shima Wasabi brand has become so highly regarded, it’s now used daily by leading chefs in over 60 of Australia’s top restaurants and Shima are continually innovating to bring you new ways to use 100% wasabi in your own dishes at home. Their extensive range includes:

  • Pure Wasabi powder in two different sizes, with enough to make 110 or 250 grams of pure Wasabi paste
  • Fresh Wasabi stems to produce a powerfully hot, sweet and fragrant fresh Wasabi paste
  • Standard and extra large Wasabi leaves with a mild Wasabi taste, perfect for salads
  • Hand-picked baby Wasabi leaves with a sharp flavour, suitable for any dish
  • Wasabi stalks with a sharper, hotter flavour to add crunch and zing
  • Tasty Wasabi flowers for a unique accompaniment to a gourmet dish
  • Crisp, sweet Kabu (Japanese baby turnips), which can be used fresh, pickled or cooked
  • Tender Kinome (Japanese Pepper Leaf) with a refreshingly powerful mint–citrus flavour with overtones of fragrant pepper.

Shima Wasabi takes advantage of Tasmania’s cold, pure conditions, which are the perfect environment for growing such a rare and valuable spice. Located in Tasmania’s temperate northwest, they are the largest commercial wasabi farm in Australia.

They employ a unique hydroponic growing system that enables a controlled growing environment and almost all parts of the plant are edible. The stems are harvested, cleaned and shipped direct to restaurants around Australia to make fresh Wasabi paste. Other parts of the plant are sorted into ingredients for a range of fresh and dried product, with less than 10% of harvested material going to waste.

"The product aligns just perfectly with Tasmania's clean, natural ethically grown produce with enormous integrity that beautifully captures Tasmania's story."

Jeremy Rockliff, Minister of Primary Industries, on Nichols Ethical Free Range.

"It's blown me away. Small volumes of birds with 24 hours access to range. If I was a chicken in Tasmania, I'd want to be on a Nichols farm."

Rob Caldecott, 2016 UK Poultry Farmer of the Year on Nichols Ethical Free Range.

"Meander Valley Dairy clotted cream is top notch & would be an authentic complement back in Cornwall or Devon to the perfect cream tea. Please try it if you've never tasted clotted cream with strawberries, on trifle, with ice cream, on scones with homemade preserves, or with any favourite sweet treat."

Virginia Beers, on Facebook about our Meander Valley Dairy Clotted Cream.

"Wow, purchased your Nichols Ethical Free Range chicken today in our local IGA grocery at Cygnet. Super impressed, got home and watched your video. Increasingly, I have been challenged with how the meat our family eat is treated and your product have made me feel good about the purchase and will definitely buy again. Thanks for taking these steps. I appreciate as a business it can be a leap of faith, you are doing an amazing thing! So a big thank you from the Little family."

"Dear Meander Valley,Just a quick email to say that you have made two Devonian girls in Perth WA very happy with your clotted cream! We have tried scones on numerous occasions and they just aren't the same without the right cream... We found your product after being told about it by a friend and are now sat enjoying scones with proper cream!  Thank you again."
